The platte river valley in Denver, Co has become a real focal point of the city’s urban renewal efforts. Riverfront park has become an oasis of urban green lands juxtaposed with stunning city scapes. The area boasts trendy coffee shops, restaurants, museums and arts groups. It’s access is unmatched with light rail, buses and bike paths centralized between lower downtown and the platte river valley.

Key #5
Tiny Skyscrapers
For a moment, this grate at the base of the Milennium Bridge is transformed into a futuristic skyscraper with strange, circular windows. The relationship between the repetition of pattern and the arched lines create an assortment of dizzying perspectives.
Freshly Sharpened
Pencils may evoke memories of algebra homework and standardized tests but to an artist, a freshly-sharpened pencil holds endless possibility. The photograph’s narrow depth of field is sharpened, much like its subject.
Denver Night Sky
Denver shines as brightly as the moon in this luminous photograph taken from my own backyard. Shooting at night may present its challenges but the slowed process invites me to capture the light with care and precision.

Ice Painting
.
At last year’s artist retreat with The Other Side Arts, I created a series of pieces I call Ice paintings. I really enjoyed creating these photographs. As the ice melted in the hot sun, it created such beautifully rich colors and patterns.
Graceful Tension
The tension and strain in Roy’s body display a subtle strength. As I adjusted the color in this photograph, I stopped at this level because it all at once emphasized the intensity of this pose while revealing a soft vulnerability. The image simultaneously captures a graceful moment before rising and a possibility that he will leap from the photograph–the potential energy is enigmatic.

Connection
Designer, Armando Guerra
This shot of designer Armando Guerra was taken in my studio after a hurried request by the artist. I chose the classic look of black and white photography with a splash of color in his tie. I felt this really spoke about who Armando is, a bit dark and guarded but always with flair!
