Today I was out on the hunt for images in preparation for my trip to the rust belt. I was looking for industrial scenes that might make good HDR (high dynamic range) images. I passed this scene earlier in the day but the light just wasn’t right. I waited here for about an hour and a half to get this shot.

Engine Problems?
Since I was 16 I have been in love with Volkswagons. I’ve had 5 beetles, 4 buses (one of which I traveled through Europe in) and a VW Thing. When I came across this awesome VW yard today, I was immediately drawn to this image.
I’ve spent many hours with my head and hands in engines like this but I’ve never seen one engulfed in bindweed! I love the chaotic and humorous feel of this shot. I thought my engine had issues!
Thanks to Wolfgang for letting me shoot in your awesome yard.
Self Portrait #5
I’m looking forward to the warm weather. Winter in Colorado is very beautiful, but long. I’m looking forward to grass, flowers and even bugs. (we don’t have many here)
Red Chile
I’ve been thinking about food all day today. So, when it came time to choose a photo for today’s post, I was immediately drawn to this shot.
Pride Parade
As spring approaches I’m starting to think about all the things I love about the warm weather. Gardening, Hiking, and of course Pride always top my list.
This image was taken at the 2008 Pride Parade on Colfax Ave. right across from the Capitol Building. This photo always brings a smile to my face. They both look ready for a festive day!
Little Hippo
This photo was taken for my partner, Remy’s Blog. His middle name is Hipolito and he named his blog, “Little Hippo.” At the time, Remy still smoked and we thought this was the perfect image for it. He has since stopped smoking so we’re thinking about a new image for his website. If you’d like to check out some of his work go to his blog: http://littlehippo.wordpress.com/
Smooth Waters
Yesterday, I received a neutral density filter that I ordered earlier in the week. I went for a walk along the Platte river with my dog, Kahlo to get this shot. I scouted this spot on a walk with my partner Remy last weekend and I knew it would be the perfect place to try out this new filter. A neutral density filter just filters out a certain percentage of light passing through the lens. This allows me to either reduce my depth of field in bright situations by opening up the lens or, as in this case, leave my shutter open for longer periods of time in brighter situations. This is a 3 second exposure at f-stop 29. I love the smooth feeling of the water going over the rocks.
Lifeless Beauty
I’ve always liked the haunting feel of this piece. I love the contrast of color and mood that’s portrayed in this almost “lifeless” pose. The dress and styling was done by artist, Armando Guerra back when we first met in 1999.
Colorful Como
Como, Colorado has to be one of the most “colorful” places to shoot in Colorado. The small town is filled with little visual treasures like this one. I always find something new when I go to Como!
