Nature
Green Dreams
As Remy and I started exploring the Pacific Northwest, one of the first things we noticed was how green it was. The trees were growing a wide variety of moss all over the surfaces. This shot was taken as we took a drive around the surrounding Portland area. It’s a whole new macro world for me to explore. Expect more shots to come!
Fences
Good fences make good neighbors? As I start to dig through my archives for photographs, I came across this one which I took with my newly created fisheye lens in the late 90s. This photo was taken not too long after Mathew Shepard was killed in Wyoming. It has always symbolized that fence where he was found grasping to life. As time has passed, this piece has become both difficult to look at and an inspiration to me. Despite his horrific death, it gave a face to the gay rights movement and we finally have hate crime laws to protect innocents like Mathew.
Proud Aspen
This proud aspen tree was captured at an artist retreat at my good friend, artist and colleague, Anna Montgomery’s Home outside of Conifer, Co in 2008. This is one still image from a series of images taken for a time lapse that I did that weekend.
Colorado Tranquility
This summer, my partner, a friend and I took a weekend camping trip to get away from the city for a few days. As I was working with our friend on using her new camera, we came across this scene near our campsite. The photo was taken in the late afternoon on Boreas Pass in Colorado. I truly feel blessed to live in such a beautiful state!
Cold Mountain Light
When I went camping with friends this summer, this image was one that stood out to me. It was late morning and we were wandering through the woods looking for shots. I pushed my white balance to get the moody aspect of this piece. The light coming through the cold blue trees gives a conflicting feeling of warm and cold.
Fire Tree
This photo was taking at an artist retreat in 2007 in collaboration with photographer Randall Bellows. The red tree was created with an off camera flash with a red gel. I love working with other artists. Often new and exciting ideas out of brainstorming.
Sunrise over the Maumee
Early one morning, my dad and I were driving to work on my parents new house and we passed this scene. I made him turn around and took some time to take a few exposures. The slight fog added to the dreamy feeling of this piece.
Urban Submersion
The collision of cityscapes and nature creates a visual maze. A river stretches out over the horizon of a tall building reflecting the shadow of pedestrians crossing the bridge overhead.
Dreamlike layers reveal contradictions in the water’s reflection. Perspectives battle and perplex as tall becomes deep in this drowned city.
