Ice paintings are one of my favorite rainy afternoon photography project. It’s easy to accomplish. First, freeze a container of water into ice. A disposable food container works great. Then, set up some lights or use natural light if it’s available. Slowly add your favorite colors of food coloring or acrylic paints and take macro shots of the results. You can also change the affect by using salt to create more texture.

Rust Bug
Part of the reason I chose to come to the rust belt to shoot a photography project is that I love the aesthetic of decay. This image of a vw bug in Erie, Co caught my eye for its different stages of corrosion.
Engine Problems?
Since I was 16 I have been in love with Volkswagons. I’ve had 5 beetles, 4 buses (one of which I traveled through Europe in) and a VW Thing. When I came across this awesome VW yard today, I was immediately drawn to this image.
I’ve spent many hours with my head and hands in engines like this but I’ve never seen one engulfed in bindweed! I love the chaotic and humorous feel of this shot. I thought my engine had issues!
Thanks to Wolfgang for letting me shoot in your awesome yard.
Colorful Como
Como, Colorado has to be one of the most “colorful” places to shoot in Colorado. The small town is filled with little visual treasures like this one. I always find something new when I go to Como!
Como Cemetery
This was taken from Como Cemetery, just outside of Como, Colorado. Como is an old mining town that was very popular because the railroad passed through on it’s way to Breckenridge. At one time the town even had two newspapers, multiple saloons and hotels. Much of the town burned and was never re-built.
Now, there are less than a hundred people living there. It’s situated at the opposite end of Boreas Pass from Breckenridge in South Park.
The Cemetery itself is filled with mysterious tombs of babies, nameless women and miners. It’s nestled into a beautiful Aspen Grove overlooking this great vista.
Water Tower
This great water tower was along the dirt road that led us to our campsite that was on a dramatic hill. Sleeping was so difficult that we had to move our site the next day. Never camp sleeping on a hill! It made for a good story and this dramatic photograph.
Muse
This photo was the image that sparked my male escort series, DisClosure. I met Ronnie in the Fall of 1998. I was sitting in the park writing in my journal and he comes up to me and sits across the picnic table from me. He asked what I was writing and offered to share some poetry that he had in his bag. We talked for hours that day. I had a real creative connection with him. Later that week he went with me to shoot photos in the mountains. This shot in particular started me thinking about a book. A coffee table book telling the visual and creative stories of male escorts. The rest, let’s say, is history.
Denver Diner
Denver Diner is another iconic business in Denver, Colorado. From the corner of Speer and Colfax, this eatery hosts lots of late night patrons seeking comfort food.
This photo was taken as part of a photography series based on Colfax Ave which is now showing in the Aurora MLK library. It was also recently chosen as the cover image for Your Castle Realty’s Real Estate Trends booklet.
Millennium Bridge
The Millennium Pedestrian Bride near downtown Denver is quickly becoming an iconic symbol for the city. Economic growth has boomed around it for the last 8 years and for me it has come to symbolize our coastal envy as a city.
I really love the lines of this piece. My eye never gets bored.
