The Spoils of the Season

2010 not only marks a new decade in history, but a new decade in my life–I turn 40 today.

Taking pictures of trash may seem like a strange way to commemorate it, but when your birthday follows a frenzied trail of torn wrapping paper, confetti, and abandoned Christmas trees, the images offer a different perspective.  The trees that once symbolized the season, glowing with lights and shiny ornaments, are now tossed unceremoniously alongside dumpsters.   The discarded trees mark the close of the holidays, the beginning of a new year, and reveal a glimpse into the staggering spoils of the season.

Being Christmas, I always think about family and how important they are in my life. This photo of my niece, Madelyn and my nephew Jacob symbolizes that love and spirit of Christmas. I remember so many wonderful childhood Christmas’. My parents always made sure we had wonderful memories and great photographs. Some of my favorite photos from my childhood were taken on Christmas. We always looked so happy!

Merry Christmas Mom, Dad, Steve and your family and Josh. I love you all.
