Chicago Sunset

Chicago Sunset

This photo of a lakefront view of downtown Chicago was taken during my rust belt tour earlier this year. Although most of the trip was focused on finding the beauty in the decayed and neglected industries, we would take moments like this one to see the beauty in the modern city as well. This is […]

1 1/2 Ton

1 1/2 Ton

I love the perspective of this piece. It was taken in an abandoned steel and wire company in Chicago. Every time I look at this photo, it draws me in, spins me around and spits me out. I love that momentary sensation in my stomach like I’m on a spinning ride at Lakeside.

Easy does it

Easy does it

Sometimes when my brother Joshua and I were exploring these abandoned buildings, we put our self in some dangerous situations. This complex was easy enough to access but it was filled with deep pits in very dark rooms. One of these pits actually had the skeleton of what appeared to be a dog. We theorized […]

Santa Fe Grain Elevator Complex #1

Santa Fe Grain Elevator Complex #1

This building is part of the Santa Fe Grain Elevator Complex in Chicago, IL near Interstate 55 and Damen Rd. It was build in 1906 and then rebuild in the 30’s after a grain elevator explosion. There are several buildings including a power plant, a drying building, a rail car repair shop and several large […]

Reclaim

Reclaim

As my brother, Joshua and I explored forgotten buildings throughout the rust belt, we noticed a relationship between the man made structures and nature. As the wind, rain and sun work on breaking down many of these old buildings, plant life begins to invade. Often the plants will grow on the roof tops or inside […]

Pressure

Pressure

I’ve always had a fascination with water towers. I’m not sure what it is about them but since I was a kid I’ve been attracted to them. During my trip to the rust belt, I took the opportunity to shoot a lot of water towers. Many of which I’m sure I will post on the […]

Desicration

Desicration

As my brother Joshhua (www.ballmultimedia.com) and I were looking for building to photograph in Toledo, Ohio, we came across this church.  As I looked over the desicration of this place of worship I thought about what had happened here. Who got married at this alter, now painted with inverted pentagrams? Who sang in these aisles  […]

Coal Power

Coal Power

This coal fired power plant in Denver is one of thousands in the country.  As we shift our focus to more green technologies for creating energies, scenes like this will become more rare.  We’ll begin to see more solar panels and wind turbines replacing smoke stacks and huge piles of coal.

Denver Sunset

Denver Sunset

Today I was out on the hunt for images in preparation for my trip to the rust belt. I was looking for industrial scenes that might make good HDR (high dynamic range) images. I passed this scene earlier in the day but the light just wasn’t right. I waited here for about an hour and […]

Fossil Fuels

Fossil Fuels

As we learn more about how our way of life shifts the balance of life in a dangerous direction, I hope that images like this become rare. This high dynamic range shot of a coal fired power plant was taken in Denver, Co at sunset.

9th Street

9th Street

This piece is inspired by my little brother Josh.  I took this photo last night of 9th Street on Auraria Campus. This street houses many of the campus organizations such as the Metro Alumni Association. I’ve been looking into doing some High Dynamic Range photographs and this is my first go at it.
