Fall Drive

Fall Drive

Remy, Henry and I took a nice fall drive today. Here are a few of the images I got.

Almost a lost opportunity

Almost a lost opportunity

This sunset photo was taken just outside of Pittsburgh earlier this year. My brother Josh and I had just finished a weekend of shooting urban exploration photographs in Cleveland and Pittsburgh and were on our way back to Toledo, Oh for Easter. We had waited for the sunset in the city on one of the […]

Walleye Run

Walleye Run

Have you ever asked where to buy a fish finder? The Walleye Run in the Maumee River in Toledo, Oh is a big event each year. It’s so big, Toledo has named it’s professional hockey team, The Walleyes, who are actually in the playoffs right now. Each year the Walleye come up the Maumee river […]

Drill Baby Drill

Drill Baby Drill

As I traveled along I-25 north of Denver, I realized the landscape was spattered with these oil drills. I’m always looking for situations where there’s a juxtaposition of nature and man.  Although we’re currently completely dependent on oil for transportation, energy and plastics. I hope that one day these oil drills are replaced with renewable […]

Smooth Waters

Smooth Waters

Yesterday, I received a neutral density filter that I ordered earlier in the week. I went for a walk along the Platte river with my dog, Kahlo to get this shot. I scouted this spot on a walk with my partner Remy last weekend and I knew it would be the perfect place to try […]

Costco Sunset

Costco Sunset

The other day I was heading to Costco for some of the usual staples and I noticed this sunset from the parking lot. I try to make it a habit to always have my camera with me, and on that day, I did. I took about 6 captures and this was my favorite. I used […]

Como Cemetery

Como Cemetery

This was taken from Como Cemetery, just outside of Como, Colorado. Como is an old mining town that was very popular because  the railroad passed through on it’s way to Breckenridge. At one time the town even had two newspapers, multiple saloons and hotels. Much of the town  burned and was never re-built. Now, there […]

Water Tower

Water Tower

This great water tower was along the dirt road that led us to our campsite that was on a dramatic hill. Sleeping was so difficult that we had to move our site the next day. Never camp sleeping on a hill! It made for a good story and this dramatic photograph.

Survivor

Survivor

Ice plant, or Mesembryanthemum cooperi is a hardy summer plant that can grow in harsh full sun and rocky soil. It’s a true survivor. I think this is what attracts me to this plant. It’s determination to survive in very hard conditions. It’s symbolic of my current circumstances and I hope to be as strong […]

Days are numbered.

Days are numbered.

This plant totally reminds me of Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors. I can’t wait until Spring when I can start gardening again. This year will be my first full growing season in our new house. Winter, your days are numbered!

Relaxation

Relaxation

This photo was taken in a friends garden. Nature photography is something I like to do as a relaxing activity. I don’t get too crazy with it or worry about how the images will turn out. I allow myself to play and try new things.

Mountain Living

Mountain Living

We came across this trailer in Como, Colorado during a camping trip in the area. Although it might not be the ideal structure to live in, the view was amazing! Who chooses to live here? What is the history of this time and weather damaged structure?

Transition

Transition

This photo was chosen, in part, by a random selection by photojournalist, Jenn LeBlanc with the # 57 This photograph was taken while I was scouting the Denver industrial neighborhoods as part of a photojournalism class with Kenn Bisio at MSCD. At first I didn’t know what it was and it freaked me out a […]

Ant and Popcorn

Ant and Popcorn

For the next few weeks I have asked friends to choose a number between 1 and 527 which correspond with folders in my archive. Each day I will use a different number chosen and create a piece from the photos in that folder. This piece was chosen by Christine Zipps with the # 11. I […]

Wind Power

Wind Power

I took this image when I first made my fisheye lens in 1998. It was in Northeastern Colorado along I-25 somewhere. Along that whole stretch of highway you see grasslands, windmills, and oil pumps.

Green Blanket

Green Blanket

I was just amazed by the amount of moss growing in the Pacific Northwest. It grows on anything that doesn’t move! I really loved the juxtaposition of the moss on trees and the moss on concrete. It also reminds me that if we ever destroy ourselves through war or science, nature will take over and […]

Changing Landscape

Changing Landscape

I took this photo somewhere in Oregon as we drove home from Portland recently. What made me immediately pull over as I saw this was the juxtaposition of the old rusted building with the wind turbines in the background. I realized that new technologies and our quest to be a “green” world, will ultimately change […]

Out of the Mist

Out of the Mist

As we begin our journey back home, we drive out of the mist and start heading west. This photo will always remind me of this trip to the pacific north west. Yesterday we spent the day in Seattle and had perhaps the best seafood meal ever! I will see you all soon.

Green Dreams

Green Dreams

Copyright Jeff Ball 2009 As Remy and I started exploring the Pacific Northwest, one of the first things we noticed was how green it was. The trees were growing a wide variety of moss all over the surfaces. This shot was taken as we took a drive around the surrounding Portland area. It’s a whole […]

Fences

Fences

Good fences make good neighbors? As I start to dig through my archives for photographs, I came across this one which I took with my newly created fisheye lens in the late 90s. This photo was taken not too long after Mathew Shepard was killed in Wyoming. It has always symbolized that fence where he […]

Proud Aspen

Proud Aspen

This proud aspen tree was captured at an artist retreat at my good friend, artist and colleague, Anna Montgomery’s Home outside of Conifer, Co in 2008. This is one still image from a series of images taken for a time lapse that I did that weekend.
